The Urban Development Debut The Ohm books a complete evening of good music the night that Renegade Rhythms bumped the house till the crack of dawn. Brad Vachal started the evening off spinning a short house set. The warm sounds mixed with Disco, Jazz, and Latin influences left the listener wishing that he spun more than five records. After him, a string of rock bands flowed in playing their mix of psychedelic and mod rock. The house began fill up in anticipation of King Black Acid - one of Portland's favorite phsychedelic rock bands. They rocked the house with an expressiveness and fire that was appreciated - echoing their Pink Floyd influence. After the rock show, the club went through an interesting transformation. The rockers filed out left as the heads who wanted to get funky filed in! Dlyte did not disappoint. Now that his hand is healed, he played another groovalicious set. The house beats were deep, the mixes tight, and the balance was even. He worked and warmed up the crowd with expertise and professionalism. Props to the sound man because the corner I was dancing in sounded good in that packed house! The crowd seemed primed and eager once Dlyte finished banging the box. Brett Dancer's got Soul! What else needs to be said? The president of Trackmode Recordings navigated the crowd through an unrivalled pilgrimage of deep house. I even sang along with some of those songs and nobody eyed me askance (maybe they could not hear me). The best one word summary for his set is joy. Similar to the joy that seen on the faces of those inner city gospel chiors; the joy of being alive and being able to express oneself. Brett Dancer sustained a similar sense of euphoria throughout the evening. Thanks to our fans and the regulars for keeping the fun loving vibe all night. I would like thank the Ohm crew for keeping the place orderly, clean, and providing excellent service.

Brett Dancer Makes Spirit Soar DJ Brett Dancer, Bliss, and The Fang kept Seges warm and grooving with a masterful presentation of deep house music. Seges aptly named this friday night event Spirit. The room was the perfect atmosphere for the deep soulful grooves: where there is plenty of room to dance, sit comfortably, and attend the bar. The acoustics in the club are great. The sound was clear and even (except when standing right next to the speakers). We would like to thank DJ Ryan Walz for providing an excellent sound system for the room! The extra power kept the dance club bumping all night long! Renegade Rhythms thanks our friends and fans for showing up. The staff did a great job of making sure everybody was helped. Everybody was smiling, lively, and there to enjoy the music and the company. Alot of respect needs to go out to the Renegade Rhythms crew for keeping the vibe about the deep soulful grooves! The highlight of the evening for me was when Brett Dancer bumped the house to Aretha Franklin. These things helped create a great vibe till the early morning!

DJ Brett Dancer Delved Deep for Truth's Rebirth DJ Brett Dancer -- Trackmode Records' recording artist and producer -- performed an after hours show in Portland, OR on Friday, May 12th. The party started around 12 midnight as a Hip Hop show was finishing up down stairs. But partiers were making a show before the Hip Hop was over. Dlyte warmed up the dance floor while the bar was still open. The bar provided a friendly and social atmosphere, as the bartender provided stiff drinks. The owners had removed the pool tables to give people more places to sit and talk as they listened to the DJ. Then the bar closed as the main attraction took over the decks. Brett Dancer created a very cool scene. He kept the good vibe flowing all night long as he layed down the deep grooves. The room was filled deep soulful grooves that I wished would never end. The balcony at the Paradigm provided a warm atmosphere and plenty of space for the friendly dancers. The dance floor was ringed with chairs so that the exhausted people could rest. My favorite section were the bean bag chairs that were in one corner. The room provided provided full and rich acoustics no matter where you were located in the room. Even standing next to the speakers did not seem to make the music's impact change at all. If you were unable to make this event, stay tuned to our website for a rebroadcast or an archive of the show. This marked the first Truth event since Zoot Suite was closed down last month.

"How Ya Like It" Review I've gotta give props to the little labels like Track Mode that just keep bangin' 'em out. Here Brett Dancer and spiritual garage guru Carlos Sanchez collaborate on a couple of cuts on this recent 10 inch release. The A side "How You Like It" works a nice gospelly female vocal loop over a catchy organ progression, to great effect; a bouncy synth horn line weaves in and out, and good solid thump anchors it. On the B side, "Reunion" is a more heady, deep journey, perhaps more of what we'd expect from something with Sanchez' name on it. Mellow key tickles, sweeping synths, layers of afro-latin percussion, and subtle bass riffs make it quite mesmerizing. The production level may not be the highest, but I don't find that it really detracts from the final product. Give it a listen. And watch out for Track Mode's forthcoming "Abstract Fusion" compilation, that's in the works with London's Music IsŠ label, featuring big names like Larry Heard, Moody Mann, Chris Gray, Tony Rodriguez, Mike Clark, and Jordan Fields.**1/2

DJ Brett Dancer Shows Portland Some New York Soul Truth -- Friday Nites will never be same after Brett Dancer. He played grooves so deep that he left furrows in Zoot Suite. But seriously, this man has some soul! It was interesting to notice how the partiers revelled in the vibe. Some people danced with what seemed boundless energy and never ending smiles. Other people seemed to be nodding to the music from what seemed a spiritual revelation. He flowed from track to track easily. Look for Renegade Rhythms to bring back this New York sensation for repeat performances! written by Slappy |
