Derrick Carter Keeps Portland Dancing Past Sunrise Renegade Rhythms presented Derrick Carter -- Classic Records, Rednail, Chicago -- to Portland, OR on Friday, April 21. He played a set for a packed house at the final Truth at Zoot Suite. DJs Spanky and Caleeco spun for a lively crowd in the bar. One happy party goer exclaimed, "Yeah! They sound good because they are having fun!" But scene in the bar was just a warm up for what would come later that evening. Dlyte spun well past last call on the main dance floor. For this special event, we used an Allan and Heath, Xone 62 mixing board. Dlyte spun exceptionally well that evening, and his 13 years of experience shined on stage as he played an extended set on three turntables. He slowly brought the crowd up to a frenzy till Derrick Carter was ready to take over. When Derrick took over the decks as he took the dancers to his own heights and vistas, spinning past sunrise. A talented array of people danced on Derrick Carter's stage, that evening. Many people taking a rest, would watch these talented dancers for minutes on end. The crowd was festive for one of Zoot Suite's last evenings. Derrick Carter is one of the greatest talents to come out of Chicago in the 90s. His success as a dj has led him to producing, where he has released a number of his own LPs and CDs. Some of the labels he has produced for include Blue Cucaracha, Classic, and Organico. written by Slappy
