Doc Martin and Crew Bump Portland Well Into Tuesday
August 21, 2000

Renegade Rhythms Radio would like to thank everybody who tuned into the webcast on August 21st. The west coast's most notorious dj and supporting cast, Shaboom, Dlyte, Aquaman, Eric Vachal and the the IMIX crew (Manoj and others) spun club Ohm on its heels from 9 PM Monday til 5 AM PST Tuesday. This party was possibly Portland's best Monday night party of the year. The house and patio were packed!

The scene was split up by an inside stage and an outside patio. Dlyte and the IMIX crew spun outside on this warm summer evening. The high brick walls and the bumpin' sound system created great acoustics. Until Doc came on the main stage, the patio out numbered the house at times. It is a small wonder because Dlyte spun great. He demonstrated why d-jays want to spin with him if Doc's face looking over Dlyte's shoulder was any indication. Doc seemed very eager to hit the decks right then. This friendly competition energized the entire evening! The people fed off the d-jay's energy which in turn engergized the d-jays further. A surprising number of people were still talking about Dlyte's set for weeks afterwards! Usually right after they talk about Doc's set. The IMIX crew took over the patio after Dlyte.

Inside, Aquaman and Eric Vachal started around 10:30 PM. This was the stage that we were webcasting from. They spun an interesting blend of disco and house. The words that best characterize their set are warm and groovy. Afterwards, Shaboom lit up the stage with their version of house. It was interesting how they blended house and english pop and folk music. I even wanted to sing along with a few songs!

At about 1 AM, DOC took over the main stage. The crowd seemed electric! Doc spun a progressive house set that was awesome. He had the Ohm just as hopping on this Monday night as any other weekend party. He bumped that crowd till 5 in the morning. The only thing people sat down for was rest.

Why does everybody look so tired? Common folks, it's MONDAY Night!

Deep Urban Breakdown Tour 2000
Flyer - front | back
March 11, 2000

One week after I take over the website, Renegade Rhythms throws one of the biggest parties to hit Portland. It was an all ages show at the Paradigm. Overall the crowd was a typical good Portland crowd: energetic and fun! We promoted the party with the following line-up : Doc Martin, Roy Davis Jr., DJ Pierre, Dlyte, and Bliss. As a last minute addition, Steve Loria came up from LA to mix at the Portland stop. We squeezed his set in between Dlyte and DJ Pierre. Three decks were installed on stage; at times the DJs were mixing two and three records continuously for several minutes and tracks.

They played alot of soul laced with disco and deep acid house. Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Aretha Franklin were in the mix! They did not just play the oldies. According to Bliss (who recently returned from a tour in Germany), they played some of the hottest house tracks from Europe.

My little crew and I appeared during Steve Loria's set. The feeling in the air was electric. With the line outside the door, the Paradigm was going to be as packed and sold out. Eventually the dance floor became hot and sweaty, the dance floor became so crowded that I had alot of fun just mingling. The bar scene was cool because you could check out the mixes and still hang. Upstair scene was cool too because people can sit down and chill. Although the naked skin and the deep house kept on beckoning me to return to the dance floor.

Props to the Renegade Rhythms crew for keeping the show about the music. We would like to thank everybody who showed! The vibe was great all night long.
